My name is John, and my wife’s name’s Amy, we’ve been married for nearly 5 years. We’ve got a beautiful girl called Emily, she is 2 1/2.

First a bit about us. We are foreigners residents in the UK. I am Italian and Amy is Chinese. We met in London about 7 years ago, and we’ve been together since.

Our marriage life has been -like many others – plenty of ups and downs. It seems cyclical, in fact we got one or two big arguments a year!!!

well, the thing is though, recently I decided to become a vegetarian. Today, it’s the third day after I made her that announcment, which fell like a bomb to her. Why? because we eat meat every day. We are like predators eating meat all the time. So, just imagine her reaction…she is still upset and very crossed to me. She even is announcing that she wants to divorce me. (first let me clarify that I am a family man, no cheating of any kind ok!). So, that may sound funny but she takes it really serious. And honestly the only thing I guess I should do is leave her to come back to her senses. I mean, don’t talk about it, because it really hurts her pride.

Of course, there are many details that I haven’t tell you, because I cannot say everything and perhaps no one would understand everything in one go, but to summarize that’s the situation at the moment.

so, I’d like to ask to all married couples that bother to read these lines: do you think she feels threatened for my wish to become vegetarian?. Have I chosen the wrong timing? maybe. I told her that I want to plan it, I want to get ready because that would involve our family and I reckon we should go for better (dont forget that a good veg diet is very healthy, you can live longer and better). Why she is so reluctant to accept or even understand my point? She is completely closed, hermetic, sealed!!!

Please bear in mind that she is very proud of herself, she has a high confidence although a not high academic background, which makes her behave erratic and emotional very easily, rather than rational and focused.

On the other hand, she is wonderful. She is the sort of woman that no matter when do you need her, or what for, she is there ready to help. She has a great heart and I love her.

So, there you go. She’s still is looking at me like the selfish one; the careless; she gives me a very long face, and great distance… that makes me feel pretty bad, also thinking I still havent changed to veggie!
